Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging, Baby Washed Away

Mumbai, India

Torrential rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday and Monday has led to severe waterlogging in many parts of the city, including key roads and low-lying areas. As of noon on Sunday, the city had received 152mm of rainfall, along with a high tide of 444m, resulting in widespread waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Monday, warning of more heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The rainfall has caused significant disruption to daily life in Mumbai. Many roads have been flooded, making it difficult for people to get around. Several schools and colleges have been closed, and some flights have been delayed or canceled. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed pumps to clear the water, but the process is slow.

Tragically, a 4-month-old baby was washed away in a water stream on Sunday evening. The baby was playing outside his home when he was swept away by the strong currents. A search and rescue operation is underway, but there has been no sign of the baby so far.

The heavy rainfall has also caused flooding in neighboring Thane and Palghar districts. In Thane, several villages have been cut off due to flooded roads. The IMD has warned that the rainfall is likely to continue for the next few days, and has advised people to stay indoors.
