Heavy downpour affects Goregaon, Andheri, Chembur, Mulund, Airoli

Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Wednesday morning, affecting various parts of the city, including Goregaon, Andheri, Chembur, Mulund, and Airoli. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday, July 13th.

Rainfall and impact

From 8 am to 12 noon on Wednesday, Mumbai recorded over 300 mm of rain, leading to waterlogging in key roads and low-lying areas. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) suspended its search and rescue operation due to the intense rainfall.

The incessant downpour has caused disruptions to daily life, with several flights being diverted to other airports. Commuters have faced difficulties due to traffic snarls and waterlogging, while schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed.

Safety precautions

The IMD has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rainfall. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding waterlogged areas, downed power lines, and unstable structures.

The civic authorities are working to restore normalcy and address the impact of the rains. However, the heavy rainfall is expected to continue, and citizens should stay vigilant and follow the instructions of authorities.
