Heavy Rainfall Hits Mumbai, Causing Waterlogging and Disruptions

Over 200mm of rain recorded in several parts of the city

Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Sunday, July 21, 2024. In the 24 hours ending on 8 am Monday, several parts of the city recorded over 200 mm of rain, leading to waterlogging and disruptions in daily life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in these areas. The IMD has also warned of possible flooding and landslides.

The heavy rainfall has affected traffic in Mumbai, with several roads waterlogged and closed to traffic. The Mumbai Fire Brigade has been deployed to pump water out of flooded areas.

Local authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. They are also advising people to stay away from water bodies and electrical equipment.

The heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next few days. The IMD has advised residents to be prepared for further disruptions and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
